EPISODE 5: Kai (EXO)

her cell phone vibrates on the desk. The caller is none other than Kai of
Week 7: 7 First Kisses
I have been super excited for this K-Drama. Why? It has seven of Korea most
leading men: Lee Joon Gi (Scarlet Heart
Ryeo), Park Hae Jin (Cheese in the
Trap), Ji Chang Wook (The K2), Kai
(EXO), Taec Yeong (2PM), Lee Jong Suk (W:
Two Worlds), and Lee Minho (Legend of
the Blue Sea). This cute drama gives out a carefree vibe from the plot
driven ones I have been watching lately. Storyline is simple and straight to
the point about a girl who wished to get her first kiss. DRAMA RECAPS: 7 First Kisses Episodes 1 & 2
When a Snail
Falls in Love left me with quite a first impression that I ended up
marathoning the whole series or the current episodes already released online. I
kept telling myself “patience is a virtue” as I waited for the last two episodes
of this crime thriller. Although I have been spoiled for the ending, I still waited
for English subtitles because I wanted to see how it all ends.
Straight from the start, this drama intrigue
viewers by its unique title, When a Snail
Falls in Love, which simply draws us in. It’s a figurative saying; it’s not
about an actual snail and lion. In this case, the snail is Xu Xu, who is clever
when it comes to psychoanalyze a crime, but slow when it comes to love. Ji Bai
is the lion in terms of his fierce and brave ability to pursuit crimes and
love. Two polar opposites; yet they make a perfect crime solving duo.
on Seven First Kisses, fairy
godmother Choi Ji Woo granted Soo Jin’s wish of getting her first kiss by allowing
her to meet seven mysterious men with “kiss” number one given by Lee Joon Gi.
Just right after the kiss, she came back to present time and met her handsome
boss, Park Hae Jin aka potential kiss number2. EPISODE 3: Park Hae Jin
Due to her
using her cell phone during work, her boss inquired her to work overtime with
him. When she walked into his office, she expected there to be lots of works to
be done; rather she ate dinner with him. He seeing it was already late said he
will take her home.
I have found myself starting a new K-Drama, Goblin, after hearing much hype about it. Similar to other drama
series, I tell myself to not have any expectations coming into; let the drama
surprise me. Oh mo mo this drama is a definite must watch! Goblin enchanted me with its story line and casts.
When I think of a goblin, I think a little green guy that plays naughty
tricks on people. That certainly is not the case in Goblin, a K-Drama starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun and Lee Dong Wook.
Not only does the goblin looks handsome so does the grim reaper!
A short Korean
melodrama that I have highly anticipated since I saw the teaser of it a month
or two ago released the first two episodes. No, I am not sponsored by anyone to
talk about this drama. Then again why am I so excited about this drama? It has seven
of Korean most leading men: Lee Joon Gi (Scarlet Heart: Ryeo), Ji Chong Wook (The K2),
Park Hae Jin (Cheese in the Trap),
TaecYeong (2PM), Kai (EXO), Lee Jong Suk (W:
Two Worlds) and Lee Minho (The Legend
of the Blue Sea). A star studded K-Drama! Without farther ado, here are my
recaps of the first two episodes. EPISODE 1:
Choi Ji Woo
protagonist, Min Soo Jin, works at the information desk at a Lotte Duty Free shop.
It just so happen that today was her 25th birthday. The sound of
cell phone made her think she received messages from a man asking her out on a
date; disappointedly they were from Lotte Duty Free wishing her happy birthday
with a birthday discounted codes. Out of all her 25 years, she never had a
boyfriend or e…
Sound of the Desert aired in 2014, but
it was not till two years later did I start to watch it. I completely had no
expectations coming into this C-Drama; thus by the end of episode 1, I was
completely hooked and could not get enough of it. A unique story line, amazing
casts and epic love triangle made it into an unforgetful drama.
author of Scarlet Heart, Tong Hua,
created Xin Yue, an orphan, who was raised by wolves and later adopted by a Han
scholar. Due to a political dispute, she is left wandering the desert with her
wolf family. In a mist of sand, she meets two men, Mo Xun and Wei Wu Ji, each with
distinguishable background. Her path to build her entertainment parlor in Chang’an
allowed her to crossed paths with Mo Xun, an influential businessman in Chang’an,
and handsome, but cold General Wei Ju Ji.
finishing Murphy’s Law of Love, I was
still in the mood for Chinese drama; thus I came across a director’s cut of My Sunshine. Huge mistake because it
left me confuse and led me to think the characters were bipolar. To end this confusion, I went on ahead and
view the full version of My Sunshine.
My Sunshine warms the heart with its
romantic love story of Mo Shen and YiChen. Fate allowed them to crossed path in
college, but tested their love toward each other until it decided enough was
enough, and intertwined their paths again. They never really forgotten one another;
rather absence makes the heart grow fonder. Despite people pulling them
together or apart, they kept their love simple and blissful.
Ever since I started watching Chinese drama again, I’m on a continuous
search for more, which is where I found myself interested in When a Snail Falls in Love, a crime
thriller about a pair of crime detectives, whom through their awkwardness have
found love with each other. It certainly was not the synopsis that drew me into
giving this a chance; it was actually the catchy title. Yes, the title does
reflect the drama; rather than being a pointless one that have no significant
meaning what so ever. The snail is Xu Xu, a criminal psychologist, who is slow
to falling in love (i.e. snail), whereas Ji Bai is a vigilant lion, whom is not
afraid to chase after love and crime.
“Some people stay broken. Some pick up the pieces and put them back
together with all the sharp edges showing.”
It is Halloween season, so I wanted to get into the spirit by reading a
scary story. Pretty much this book emitted an eerie vibe once I sat down to
read it. It did not really scare me from it, rather it did the opposite, it
allured me to keep turning the pages.
“When we are
faced with our darkest fears, inaction is for the weak or the hopeless. There
is always something to be said or done. Though words alone are mere scratching
on a page. The power behind them lies with the person.”
I am back on
a magic carpet ride once again when I read The
Rose and the Dagger (Cue “A Whole New World” playing in the background).
There were much turbulence along the way, but I did not want to stop until the
end of this magnificent series.
“Failure doesn’t define you. It’s what you do after you fail that
determines whether you are a leader or a waste of perfectly good air.”
If you need to find me, I have sold my soul to the Soul Catcher. A Torch Agains the Night picks
up right where the first book left off. Readers continue to follow the
mysterious paths of Elias and Laia as they journey to Kauf Prison to rescue
Darin. Meanwhile Helene has to deal with the responsibilities that came along with
being the Blood Shrike.
“I have never understood how people can blithely disregard the damage
they do by following their hearts. Who was it said that following your heart is
a good thing? It is pure egotism, a selfishness to conquer all.”
My heart called for a mystery book and I answered it by selecting the Girl on the Train. I have never been
a train before, but this story led me on a train ride of my life with an endless
suspense that could only be solved by finishing the book.
It was like another train ride home for Rachel until she noticed
something out of the ordinary outside her window. What is she to do? Follow her
as she somehow finds herself deeply immersed in this mystery.
“People change. We’re always changing, right? You aren’t the same as
you were then. “
I was a different person before I read Vampire Academy and I am a different person now after reading it.
A new definition of vampire created in Vampire Academy, where Moroi are the elites with the dhampirs (half
vampire) acting as their guardians to protect them from dangerous Strigoi
(immortal vampire). Throw in Lissa, a Moroi princess and her dhampirs best
friend, Rose, who have been living on the run until they were caught and force
to return to the Academy.
“We’ve had a terrible start-it doesn’t mean we can’t have a better
If the first book in the Remnant Chronicles did not deceived you with a
kiss, then prepare your heart for it would tested in the Heart of Betrayal.
Previously in the Kiss of
Deception, Lia and Rafe found themselves captured in an unknown Kingdom of
Venda. Could it get any worst? Yes, it can because the Komizar of Venda has
other plans for Lia’s gift. She has to devise a plan to ensure she has the upper
hand in the scheme she started. On a plus side, readers don’t have to guess as
to who the prince is and who the assassin is anymore.
“This forge was the glowing, iron heart of Spindle Cove, and Aaron
Dawes was its pulse. Strong. Steady, Vital.”
Excuse me as I fan myself from this sense of heat wave that suddenly
appears when I opened Beauty and the
Blacksmith. Thanks goodness it would be a quick burn since this book is a
“No one could change the past or give us back the time we had lost, and
there were no words to make everything better. We just had to accept the
present for what it was.”
I would not change the past or the present since I would not have
gotten the chance to read this touching story about getting a second chance at
love. There would be some heartbreaking
in store, but it won’t be great love if there is nothing worth fighting for.
Matt and Grace deserve this second chance. All their missteps in the
past led them back to where their love really belongs, which is each other. This
will not be easy since they thought their love ended already fifteen years ago,
but time has nothing on them. There’s a saying how absence makes the heart grows
“I see you, Heathcliff Daniel Kerrigan. I know who you are. Your breath
is my life and you’re the only one who knows who I am. You owe me, always have.”
I owe to myself to tell you how this story made me felt mixed up
inside. Trust Honor Love started off
well with Lucy getting tired of going on numerous dating sites to end up on
horrible dates. An ad in the newspaper called for volunteer to participate in a
new study, where they will find a husband/wife for a person; she saw it at sign
for her to finally find a husband. In the meantime she keeps bumping into Heath,
a childhood friend, who she has a love hate kind of relationship with since he
made a fool out of her one summer by pretending to be his twin brother, Will.
“I guess that’s what you do when you love something. You choose not to
see their imperfections. You look past the things you don’t want to see.”
A guilty pleasure of mine happened to be reading the cliché story about
a girl falling in love with her brother’s best friend, which this story certainly
“I can bear pain, myself…but I couldna bear yours. That
would take more strength than I have.” – Jamie
Lend me use some of your strength Jamie as I am still
calming down from reading the book. The story completely caught me off guard.
It did not immediately wow me from the first couple of chapters, but eventually
it grew on me.
“Harry, there is never a perfect answer in this messy
emotion world. Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of
magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the
knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your
pain. To suffer is as human to breathe.”
Happiness for Harry Potter fans is to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Yes,
J.K. Rowling published an eighth story. The gang is back along with some additional
new members that brings the feels.
"No one can choose your path, Percy. You must decide."
I certain had chosen my path wisely when I decided to pick
up this book. The world does not look the same anymore, especially if Greek
gods and goddesses may not be mythical after all.
"We're here, and then we're gone, and it's not about the time we're here, but what we do with the time." - Evan
Meet Cassie, who was an ordinary teenager until the Others crashed landing on Earth. Now, Cassie's main goal is to survive the 5th wave.
When one thinks of aliens, immediately an animated image of a friendly looking green guy pop into the mind. Not exactly the same scenario in the 5th Wave. The Others are alien, who do not come in peace. Their sole purpose, to rid Earth of humanity.
"A lie would have no sense unless the truth were felt as dangerous." - Adler
Who in the world is Robert Galbraith, one might asked. It's none other than the infamous J.K. Rowling using a different pen name to disguise her true identify.
From the very first page the author thoroughly introduced readers to Robin, who somehow find herself as a secretary to a private investigator, Cormoran Strike. Working for him would be unlike any other temporary work as she finds herself extremely immersed into her job when Strike reluctantly agreed to solve a case involving a mysterious death of famous young model, Lula.
"I looked up at him, and a thought passed through my brain before I could stop or analyze it. It's you ---of course it is. There you are."
Andie got her summer all planned out until there came changes in her plans. It will be the one summer that would unexpectedly change everything. Throw in her awesome friends and a cute boy then pretty much Andie is in for an exciting adventure.
"You can love someone so much...But you can never love people as much as you can miss them."
19 equals the total numbers of girls, named Katherine, Colin had dated. To clear his mind, he decided to go on a summer road trip with his best friend. During the journey, he developed a theorem that could possibly predict an outcome of any relationship.
Is it too late to tell you I read another Colleen Hoover book? I guess not since I did. Did I mentioned it's free to read on Wattpad, so pretty much I was bound to read it.
The story goes something like this, boy (Carter) meets girl (Sloan), but they can't be together yet. He has prior obligations to fulfill before they can be with each other. While she is stuck in a loveless kind of relationship with another boy.
"Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don't know how you ever lived without them. How you went about your day and hung out with your friends and fucked other people without having this one important person in your life."
Here's the deal: Hannah agreed to tutor Garrett to help raise his grades and in return he will help her get out of comfort zone to get the attention of her crush.
"Because when you love someone, you owe it to them to help them be the best version of themselves that they can be." - Ben
Opps I did it again I got hooked onto another Colleen Hoover book. It played with my heart and got lost into the story line that I did not noticed until I reached the end.
"Instead he came across a girl with a decidedly pensive gaze. A girl with an empty silver tray dangling from one hand. When a ray of afternoon sun struck its surface, the flash of light drew him toward her, like a moth to a flame."
So very much similar to a moth to light, I was drawn to read about the Jalal and Despina's love story. I wanted to see how the captain of the royal guard and a handmaiden fell in love.
"Do not fear what the setting sun may bring. Where there is a setting sun, there is also a rising one."
To smooth my excitement after reading the Wrath and the Dawn, I decided to read the Crown and the Arrow. Pretty much it's written from Khalid's perspective of the event of him meeting Shahrzad. I liked getting to know what his thought were, but I only wish it was longer.
"All our lives are forfeit, sayyidi. It is just a question of when. And I would like one more day." - ShahrzadThe Wrath and the Dawn had taken me on a magic carpet ride that I did not want to end. Since I mentioned a magic carpet, the song, "A Whole New World" from the Aladdin movie constantly played in my head as I read this book. It did take me to "a whole new world" filled with mysteries, secrets, love, and magic.
"There are people you meet and get to know, then there are people you meet and already know." - Auburn
This is my confession...I had a hard time putting this book down.
OMG (with pun and all intended) Colleen Hoover had done again by blowing me away with another one of her book. Is it possible to have a book warms and tears your heart to pieces? Yes, friends it does exist. Ta da here is it. I experienced a roller coaster of emotions I certainly miss when reading a captivating story.
After reading numerous YA fantasy novels, I decided to place myself in modern time. The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord happened to be one of the contemporary I started in February. The first page of the book did not draw me in, but I don't let the first page predetermined the fate of the whole book. I continued on page after page until I find myself not feel intrigue by this story anymore.
"You only get one life. It's actually your duty to live it as fully as possible." - Will Traynor
I really don't know where to start this review, but it left me speechless after reading the last page. Upon picking this book up, I pretty much knew about the inevitable heartbreaking outcome, but it still left me in a speechless state. In the process of reading, so many emotions wanted to surface. I was led on this amazing journey that I did not regret on taking because it gave me new feelings that I have not felt before.
Once upon a time, Marissa Meyer introduced the Lunar Chronicles, and readers were introduced to a cyborg named Cinder. Then came the inevitable day when her adventure came to end. All hope was not lost until the author surprised readers with Stars Above which contain nine short stories with five never before published, and one of them being an epilogue to Winter. In every fairy tale contain a happily ever after, but this is not the end yet.
"You are now Red in the head, Silver in the heart." - Mare Barrow
Welcome to a world, where people are divided based upon the color of their blood, red and silver. Silvers dominate society with their superhuman abilities. Unlike them, Reds do not carry any mythical power in their blood. In walks in Mare Barrow, a Red, who somehow posses power of her own. To cover this up, the king gives her a new identity, crowns her as a princess, and arranges her to marry a prince.
If you are looking for A Glimpse of Wonderland blog, you are in the right spot. I recently changed its name to Smile Reading. It's more simplistic and plus it's my username for YouTube/Booktube, so everything works out.
Smile Reading is still undergoing construction. Some minor changes here and there, but no fear I will not change the title of this blog again.
"Sometimes you think you want something...when what you need is to let it go." - Arin
Warning reading this book would literally tear your heart to pieces. I totally agree with whomever said this. After finishing this book, I am left speechless at how my heart is severely broken to pieces and tell myself to patiently wait for the Winner's Kiss. As for now let me tell you about the Winner's Crime.
So happy that I picked this book up during the holidays because it made me feel more into the holiday spirit. My True Love Gave to Me contained some cute short stories, but it has some that I got me baffled at the complex story development. There were several authors I have not read before, I was thrilled to be able to read their work for the first time.
